So I don’t really even know where to begin. My trip to Myanmar was incredible and went by so fast. We left from LAX knowing very little about what we would be doing over there and arrived at our destination with the mindset to be flexible and allow Him to control our every move. We were greeted by a familiar face at the Yangon International Airport. It was so good to see a friend again. Once we arrived at the field we were welcomed by the all the girls on the team. It was as if we had never left last June. It just seemed as if we picked up right where we left off. The time spent with each of the girls was incredible! I was able to continue building the friendships with girls that I have missed for a year and make new friends too. My brother came along this year on our trip and I saw how much God used him and grew him during his time in Myanmar. There is nothing sweeter than hanging out with fellow team members and reuniting with friends in a foreign country. Well…maybe there is something better. We had the opportunity to go to an orphanage and play with the kids. I will never forget that experience. We arrived to hear all of the kids singing songs. We even got to join in and sing with them. Then it came time for us to teach them a song. We all loved being there with them and had to contain ourselves so as to not break down and cry. I think I caught a glimpse of how God must feel when we worship him. The irony of being in Myanmar hit us soon enough–we had come to serve the children, yet they ended up serving us by preparing a meal and fanning us while we ate. I cannot remember feeling so humbled in my life.
We were able to meet with a few people who have been faithful to Him and hear their stories. He is amazing and really does do ALL THINGS WELL!!! It is nice to know that we have fellow like-minded brothers and sisters in Myanmar. It was also nice to meet up with our friend from last year who has recently moved away from Myanmar but came back to visit us and see his old friends.
I am eager to return to Myanmar and can think of nothing else as I try to once again fall back into the normal routine of living in America. My life has been greatly changed since my first visit and it was even harder to say goodbye a second time. I will never forget the response of one of the girls to our return. She said “I know Jesus loves me because you came back.”
